About the Threshold Workshops

Workshops for businesses, government, and non-profit organizations to enhance creativity and develop abstract thinking.

About Threshold Workshops

A Threshold Workshop is a unique and fun workshop program for businesses that uses art, writing, & story-telling as tools to increase individual and collaborative creativity, increase employee problem-solving abilities, and enhance organizational culture. People in touch with their creativity are more resourceful, productive, and fulfilled.

Studio workshops for individuals to make abstract thinking a conscious process, break free of left-brain linearity, and discover themselves as artists.

The Studio Workshops are designed to change our preconceived notions about art, unblock our creative energies, and help us express the self as never before. More than anything, they’re about exploring the link between creativity and authenticity.

HISTORY OF WORKSHOPS

The Threshold Workshops were founded in August 1999 as the result of a collaboration between three San Francisco Bay Area visual artists and a poet at the Sight & Insight gallery (now the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts) in Mill Valley, California. During that show two workshops were produced that focused on the collaborative impact of writing and painting. And from these workshops came the inspiration to create a series of art-based, educational programs in the schools for teaching abstract thinking and creativity.

About Threshold Workshops

Initially the workshops were provided at no cost. Then in 2004 and 2005 we received supporting grants from the Marin Community Foundation. Today, Threshold still provides workshops in schools. In 2006, 2007, and 2008, we provided a low-cost, four-part program at the Mill Valley Middle School on the intersection of art and science where we examine the nature of abstract thinking, study the chemistry of paint and actually made paint, explore the mathematical relationships of composition, and study the nature of light. We are hoping to expand this program by partnering with businesses to provide the workshops on a more permanent basis.

In 2004 we began a program of adult workshops using the same principles and some of the same methods that we used in the schools. Today, the Threshold Studio Workshops are conducted each month at a waterfront studio in Sausalito, California. Also in 2004 we began providing staff trainings for non-profits. And in 2006 we began the Threshold Business Workshops. Like the workshops for nonprofits, the business workshops use art, writing, and story-telling to increase individual and collaborative creativity, increase employee problem-solving abilities, and enhance organizational culture.
