Threshold Studio Workshops

Paint, collage, make monotypes, write poetry & prose, play improvisational games, and learn ways to make abstract thinking, the root of creativity, a conscious process.  The workshops are about reclaiming the conceptual mind, breaking free of left-brained linearity, and expanding one's relationship to creativity.  The workshops are equally ideal for the skilled artist and for those who have never held a brush, because they're not about art in the conventional sense.  Participants take home some great tools and an amazing piece of original art.  Not least, we have a lot of fun.  The workshops are approximately 5 hours in length.  All materials are provided.  You don't have to bring anything except a willingness to come from your imagination.

The Studio Workshops can be delivered anywhere; however, a regularly scheduled workshop is presented on the 3rd Saturday of each month at a houseboat studio in Sausalito.  The time for these workshops is 11:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.  Please register early.  Space in the studio is limited to six participants.  For prices and schedules, please call or email.  See the "contact" page of this website.

Schedule of Studio Workshops

The next regularly scheduled workshop will be Saturday, December 12th, in Sausalito.  And currently there are places available.  The following workshop will be held on Saturday, January 16th.  Also, there will be a free demo workshop at RileyStreet Art Supply on 4th Street in San Rafael on Saturday, January 9th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Special Focus Workshops

In addition to the Studio Workshops, Jim facilitates special focus workshops for one or more individuals.  Jim works with both new and advanced artists in various techniques.  These may include working with mediums (oils, pastels, acrylics) or styles (glazing, figurative abstract, still-lifes, and extreme realism).   Typically, such these sessions are conducted in four-hours, although the format can vary.   During the first three hours, a "problem" is set up and executed by both participant and facilitator.   For example,  we'll jointly decide what we're going to do.  Then during  the last hour we critique each others work.  To arrange for one of these sessions, please contact Jim.
