Jim Woessner, MFA
Co-Founder and the Facilitator of the Threshold Workshops
Originally from Missouri, Jim has made Northern California his home since 1970. To say that he has had a varied career is an understatement. It has included engineering management, both in the public and private sectors, management consulting, construction, group facilitation, writing, and art. Jim has two degrees in engineering, a nuclear engineering license, and an MFA in Literature and Creative Writing.
He has worked for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, was the Director of Quality Assurance for the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, served as sole consultant to the State of Oregon on the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant, and has taught quality assurance principles to the U.S. Army. For several years in between and at times parallel to other careers, Jim has worked as a personal coach and group facilitator, facilitating well over 300 seminars and workshops on a variety of topics, including personal development, communications, and art.
In 2001 he received an MFA in Literature & Creative Writing from Bennington College, and he has had numerous poems published in literary magazines. Additionally, two of his plays have been performed in Bay Area theaters. For the last several years, in addition to facilitating the Threshold Workshops, he has worked as both a painter and sculptor. His work regularly appears in galleries and Bay Area shows, including the Sausalito Art Festival; and two of his outdoor installations can be viewed in Sausalito. He also does several commissions each year—from photo-realistic landscapes and seascapes to abstract-figurative work and portraits.
Jim is also the creator of Artists of Issaquah, a group of artists who are attempting to re-establish the creative spirit of the Sausalito waterfront. More than 500 people visit the annual Artists of Issaquah Art Show on the last Saturday of each April. Jim’s studio and gallery are on a floating home on the Sausalito waterfront, and some of his art can be viewed at www.artistsofissaquah.com.
