What is the Threshold philosophy and how does it work?
Being effective is directly related to creativity. It’s about paying attention, being open to the unfamiliar, and making the process of abstract thinking more conscious. We emphasize abstract thinking—the process of seeing and exploring the connections between disparate experiences—because it lies at the root of creativity. We talk about the “conceptual mind” as the metaphorical seat of creativity. If you imagine a doorway to this part of the mind, the workshops supply a variety of keys through hands-on exercises. We also work with real-time problems brought to the workshops by participants. The workshops are experiential; that is, there is minimum lecturing and maximum participation. Interspersed with the exercises are group discussions where participants share their experiences, reflect on the application of abstract thinking to actual problems, and on ways to improve the creative environment in the workplace.
